WHO Code of Practice on the International Recruitment of Health Personnel

The World Health Organization (WHO) has launched from 21 March to 17 April 2011 a web-based public hearing on the draft guidelines for monitoring the implementation of the WHO Code of Practice on the International Recruitment of Health Personnel. The WHO Code was adopted by the World Health Assembly in May 2010. It contains a comprehensive set of principles that can be applied in ensuring fair and ethical recruitment of health workers worldwide. PSI strongly supports and welcomes the adoption of the Code.
The draft guidelines present the strategy for WHO to support Member States and stakeholders in implementing the Code. PSI is strongly encouraging you to send your comments on the guidelines by participating in this web-based public hearing on the WHO website: http://www.who.int/hrh/migration. The WHO has published this explanatory paper.
PSI believes that the success of the WHO Code lies greatly on its full application at the national level and with the active participation of all stakeholders. In view of this, PSI is working with the WHO Human Resources for Health Department in developing a joint collaboration towards the promotion of social dialogue in the implementation of the Code.
We would appreciate if you could copy the PSI Secretariat (genevieve.gencianos@world-psi.org) when you send your comments to the WHO. - In solidarity, Peter Waldorff General Secretary PSI
