Health care: Ownership makes a difference - By Rolv Hanssen

For-profit nursing homes and hospitals, on average, provide a lower quality of care than their non-profit peers. This conclusion is the result of a study published in the journal Health Affairs 4-2006. The authors - Mark Schlesinger, professor of health policy at Yale University School of Medicine, and Brad Gray, principal research associate at the Urban Institute - have done a systematic analysis of 162 studies of non-profit versus for-profit health care providers. The conclusion is that a facility’s ownership status does make a difference, both in terms of outcomes and cost. http://www.world-psi.org/TemplateEn.cfm?Section=Health2&CONTENTID=14730&TEMPLATE=/ContentManagement/ContentDisplay.cfm
