ELECTRICITY WORKERS PROTEST MARCHES IN ALL PAKISTAN MAJOR CITIES INCLUDING QUETTA, SUKKUR, HYDERABAD, KARACHI, MULTAN, BAHAWALPUR, SAHIWAL, GUJRANWAL, ISLAMABAD AND PESHAWAR ON 2 JUNE, 2011.
At Lahore, the thousands of WAPDA/Electricity Workers marched from the various parts of the city carrying banners against Sky Rocketing Price Hike of essential commodities and galloping unemployment and high price hike of the Electricity due to Rental and Private Thermal Power Houses in the country and to privatize the national public utility of Electricity in the public interest on the behest of I.M.F and World Bank and end mass corruption committed by the elite in the country at the cost of the poor masses and need to develop Hydel and Coal Fired Thermal Power Station in the public sector and demanding that the wages of the workers be increased with price hike and fixation of the Minimum Wages Rs. 10000/- P.M. and raising the salaries of the workers engaged in the Government & Semi-Government Departments and Autonomous Bodies @ 40% on the eve of Budget. The rally was addressed by Sajjad Hussain Shah, Addl. General Secretary, Malik Noor Muhammad Dy. Chairman, Osama Tariq, Zahid Hussain Shah, Rana Muhammad Aakram, Sajid Kazmi, Ch. Maqsood Ahmed, Haji Younus Kambo, Sh. Muhmmad Shoaib, Malik Shakoor, Bashir Ahmed Dogar, Muhammad Ayyub, Hassan Munir Bhatti, Shafqat Javed and other representatives of the Union. They declared that in case the Government did not accept the legitimate demands of the workers they would be compelled to march to Islamabad.
