Three members of line staff of Lahore Electric Supply Company died tragically within three days due to
electrocution while performing of their official duties namely Muhammad Ayub,
LM-I, Green Town Sub Division on 02-11-2014, Saif Khan ALM, Badian Road Sub
Division and Nadeem Sabir, LM-II, Akhtarabad Sub Division, Okara LESCO on
04-11-2014, leaving behind the dependents of large families including minor
children, young daughters and widow wives and old parents depriving their kith
and kin.
All Pakistan WAPDA Hydro Electric Workers Union (CBA) in an emergent meeting held today on 5th
November, 2014 at Bakhtiar Labour Hall, Lahore under the president ship of
veteran trade union leader Mr. Khurshid Ahamd, General Secretary of the union
offered prayer for the deceased and condolence to their members of the bereaved
families and demanded in a resolution to the Federal Minister for Water &
Power, Government of Pakistan and Chief Executive Officer, LESCO to intervene
and get ensured Safe Working Conditions to the line staff at workplace for
prevention of tragic accident which had being causing tragic deaths of line
staff almost 200 workers and far more becoming permanently disable since the
members of the line staff had to work double due to serious shortage of staff
and unsafe working condition. It was also demanded to extend moral and mental
assistance to the members of the bereaved families including Ex-Gratia Grant of
Rs.2.5 Million, full pension, double GLI, WW Fund, 365-days leave salary etc. and
recruitment of their one child and assistance to the children of the deceased
workers for their complete education as agreed by the Ministry. It appealed to
the line staff that they should refuse to work if put on work without shut
down, earthling the lines from both sides, proper Safety Gadget since it is
their fundamental right and should not put themselves at work on this account.
