Thousands of Electricity and WAPDA Workers observed
"DEMAND DAY" on 01.09.2016 in support of their demands all over the country by holding Protest Rallies in all the
major cities including Quetta, Hyderabad, Larkana, Sukkur, Multan,
Gujranwala, Rawalpindi, Peshawar and other cities under the aegis of ALL PAKISTAN WAPDA HYDRO ELECTRIC WORKERS UNION
C.B.A. At Lahore, hundreds of Workers took out mass procession from Bakhtiar Labour Hall, Lahore and held a mass
Rally at Lahore Press Club Square which was addressed by the Veteran
Trade Union Leader Khurshid Ahmed accompanied by Haji Muhammad Younus, Rana Shakoor, Muzaffar Mateen ,Sajid
Kazmi, Ch. Maqsood, Syed Zakir Ali Shah, Rana Shahid, Ch. Maqsood Syed Zakir Ali Shah, Rana Shahid, Rana
Akram and other representatives of the Union along with Osama Tariq Secretary All Pakistan Workers
Confederation and other trade union representatives.
At the Rally the
workers in a resolution urged to the Prime Minister of Pakistan to allocate
more National Resources to build new Hydel
Power Houses and Water Dams to provide cheaper Elecy. and overcome of Elecy.
Load Shedding and Water shortage in the country as well as up-grade over loaded
Transmission and Distribution System
to meet the growing Elecy. Demands of the National Utility. It was urged to
Elecy/WAPDA Management to raise the
Pay Scales of Technical and Professional and skilled Elecy./WAPDA workers
employed in Distribution, Generation and Grid Stations Companies and Power
Houses, Drivers, Line Staff, Accounts
Staff and other Staff alike Ministerial Staff raised by the Federal Government
and demanded to WAPDA Authority to
grant the Bonus and raising the Pay Scales of their employees alike Elecy,
thermal Generation, Distribution,
Transmission Elecy. and P.I.T.C. employees on the principle of Equal Pay of
Equal Work prior Eidul Azha.
It was
also demanded to the Government and Elecy. Management to get controlled the rising accidents of the Line Staff
resulting their tragic deaths and disabilities
every now and then. It also demanded that the “Workers employed in Private
Sector be got free from the
non-observance of Labour Laws and get raised their Pension Rs. 15.000/- P.M,
and allow free medical facility after their retirement.
The House expressed full support to the
Journalist for the right of freedom of Press and condemned the attacks upon Media at Karachi. It pledged
to make success the Union in the next
Referendum in order to defend and promote Workers Rights and raising the Productivity of the National Public Utility.
It was also urged Government that it should take urgent measures and establish an egalitarian society and to get remitted
the deposits of Feudal Lords , Crony Capitalists
and some Politicians in the Swiss and other Foreign Banks worth billions of
Rupees as announced by the Federal Minister
Finance be brought back urgently and Irrational widening gap existing between the rich & poor in the Society be eliminated
to ease the sufferings of the Peasants and Workers.
