"Thousands
of Electricity/WAPDA Workers observed “Protest Day” all over the country
on
18th January 2017 today under the aegis of All Pakistan Wapda Hydro Electric
Workers Union CBA against the decision of Punjab Labour Department in violation
of the decision of the National Industrial Relations Commission of Pakistan for holding nationwide
referendum in WAPDA/Electricity Corporatized Companies N.I.R.C on 2nd February,
2017. Earlier, the Registrar Trade Union N.I.R.C has decided to hold referendum
on the 2nd February, 2017 on the direction of Islamabad High Court in a
contempt notice issued to both Registrar Trade Unions N.I.R.C and the Registrar
Trade Union Punjab on 11-2-2017 to comply with order to hold referendum in
WAPDA/Electricity Companies nationwide as far as back on 23-9-2016 in
conformity with the Industrial Relations Act 2012 on the application of All
Wapda Hydro Electric Workers Union in compliance with the decision of Hon’ble
Islamabad High Court and Hon’ble Division Bench of Balochistan High Court
instead of holding referendum in Multan Electric Supply Company one of the 14
Electricity Companies of the Pakistan Electric Supply Company by the Registrar
Trade Union Punjab. The Protest Day was also observed all over the country at
Quetta, Hyderabad, Gujranwala, Islamabad, Faisalabad, Peshawar and other major
cities of the countries. "Advice from WAPDA
