Pakistan - Unions protest against against referendum

 "Thousands of Electricity/WAPDA Workers observed “Protest Day” all over the country on   
18th January 2017 today under the aegis of All Pakistan Wapda Hydro Electric Workers Union CBA against the decision of Punjab Labour Department in violation of the decision of the National Industrial Relations Commission of Pakistan for holding nationwide referendum in WAPDA/Electricity Corporatized Companies N.I.R.C on 2nd February, 2017. Earlier, the Registrar Trade Union N.I.R.C has decided to hold referendum on the 2nd February, 2017 on the direction of Islamabad High Court in a contempt notice issued to both Registrar Trade Unions N.I.R.C and the Registrar Trade Union Punjab on 11-2-2017 to comply with order to hold referendum in WAPDA/Electricity Companies nationwide as far as back on 23-9-2016 in conformity with the Industrial Relations Act 2012 on the application of All Wapda Hydro Electric Workers Union in compliance with the decision of Hon’ble Islamabad High Court and Hon’ble Division Bench of Balochistan High Court instead of holding referendum in Multan Electric Supply Company one of the 14 Electricity Companies of the Pakistan Electric Supply Company by the Registrar Trade Union Punjab. The Protest Day was also observed all over the country at Quetta, Hyderabad, Gujranwala, Islamabad, Faisalabad, Peshawar and other major cities of the countries. "
