PSI has sent the following message of sympathy and support to PSI affiliate the New Zealand Public Service Association, after the 22 February earthquake.

Dear Sisters and Brothers,
On behalf of Public Services International, I offer my heartfelt sympathy and condolences to our sisters and brothers and their families who are suffering from shock and trauma after the devastating earthquake on 22 February in the Canterbury region of New Zealand.
We are deeply saddened to hear about how many people have died or are still missing. We express our sincere condolences to those who have lost family and friends, along with our solidarity and support to those who have lost their homes, workplaces or community buildings.
In addition, we acknowledge the courageous efforts of members of the emergency services, and all volunteers, including the many public services workers who have worked tirelessly in the rescue effort, offering many forms of support.
Please let us know how PSI and our affiliates can offer further assistance.
In solidarity,
Peter Waldorff
PSI General Secretary
