The NSW , Conservative , State Government is pushing forward with the controversial forced merges of Local Council across the state. With the key Local Government Union ( the USU, part of PSI affiliate the ASU) , arguing to extend the State Employment Legislation for all Council workers from 3 years to 5 years .
The Union , is expressing concerns on the slashing of jobs and outsourcing or work .
"There are fears that the Baird government is using the forced council mergers as a cover to outsource services to profit-driven businesses - in turn slashing countless local government jobs. It's an incredibly stressful time for employees, who have no idea if their job is safe or not.
That's why we need 5-year employment protections, to secure jobs in these communities and ensure local government is run for the public good, not driven by profit."
