PSI Gives ADB ‘Very Poor’ Score in Madya Pradesh Power Project

May 2010, Tashkent , Uzbekistan – Due to non-compliance with core labor standards and related labor laws, lack of transparency, and absence of consultation and participation of unions, PSI-APRO Regional Secretary V. Lakshmi gave Asian Development Bank (ADB) failing scores in its power project in Madya Pradesh ( India ). Trade union rights of 58,000 employees of the Madya Pradesh State Electricity Board (MPSEB) were violated during implementation of the ADB-funded project. Lakshmi presented ADB’s ‘scorecard’ at a forum organized by global union federations (GUFs) at the Bank’s 43rd Annual Meeting in Tashkent .
