Australian Government will sit before the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child - What is your Government doing ? Can we all do better ?? ??

http://community.unicef.org.au/page.aspx?pid=287  "On the 4th & 5th of June 2012, the Australian Government will sit before the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child. Australia's peak child rights organisations have provided recommendations to the Government to protect Australia's most vulnerable children in the Listen to Children report. Here, we will see if they are listening. Together we can help protect Australia's children by ensuring our Government considers their rights and dignity in developing the policies and programs that affect children's lives. Send a letter to the Minister for Families, Housing, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs now to say we are listening. The number of children in out-of-home-care has increased by 51.5 per cent since 2005, yet Australia still collects no data on the reasons why children are placed in care; and almost HALF of all homeless people in Australia are under the age of 18. Tell the Government you are listening.  Indigenous children  are the least consulted in policies that affect them. Yet they continue to experience shocking disparity, including child mortality rates of three times their non-aboriginal peers. Tell the Government you are listening. "
