Pakistan WAPDA Hydro Electric Central Labour Union


has been agitating all over the country against the retrogressive policies of the Government on the behest of IMF and World Bank in order to privatize the national public utility of WAPDA / Electricity including handing over the nine national Thermal Power Stations to the private management and urging the Government to make the utility financially viable by getting paid its electricity dues amounting to Rs.368 billion owed by the Karachi Electric Supply Company and Government and Semi-Government Departments / Agencies and develop cheaper source of energy through Hydel and Coal Fired / Wind Power Stations instead of private Thermal Power Stations through furnace oil.
The Union also observed nationwide four day tool down strike from 8th to 11th May for acceptance of these demands as well as representing the legitimate grievances of the workers. The strike resulted into acceptance of the just demands of the Union through a bilateral meeting held by the Federal Minister Water and Power on 12th May, 2012 and announcements made by the Federal Minister Water and Power in a mammoth rally of the workers held under the aegis of the Union on 14th May, 2012 at Islamabad not only declaring that no privatization in WAPDA / Electricity would be carried out by the Government as well as grant of one month salary as honoraria to the WAPDA / Electricity workers as well as allowing 33% quota for recruitment of the children of WAPDA /Electricity workers and up-gradation of the remaining categories of employees up to 2 step who have been working in Grid Stations, Distribution Companies and Hydel and Thermal Power Houses and other Projects alike their counterparts who have been earlier granted up-gradation 100% of their categories.Advice  Osama  Tariq pwf@brain.net.pk  Joint Additional  General  Secretary - Pakistan  Wapda Hydro  Electric  Central  Labour  Union  C.B.A - Bukhtiar  Labour  Hall  28, Nisbet  Road  Lahore  Pakistan.
