Several power companies are constructing new coal fired power stations in the Dutch port Eemshaven. It is the biggest construction site in the Netherlands. One of the companies building is the German company RWE. As so often it contracts out this work. One of the companies is Polish Remak. It brings over Polish workers, around 800. However, it does not pay according to the collective agreement applicable to this work. It pays 9 euros an hour, instead of 11.50. The Dutch unions brought the company to court as it violates the collective agreement and exploits the Polish workers. The collective agreement is declared generally binding. The Polish company did agree in Court to respect the collective agreement. This also implies that the Polish company will respect the working time reduction, holiday and night work bonuses.70% of the workers on this construction site are non-Dutch. The unions have established a coordination as several unions from different sectors are involved. The coordination also assists in reaching out in a better way to the non-Dutch workers. The article is in Dutch. Advice from http://twitter.com/energyunions.
