http://gmpsiaprec.blogspot.com.au/2013/03/psi-oceania-women-pledgedto-end.html -PSI Oceania Women confirmed on Tuesday 05th March in Auckland, New Zealand, to join the PSI members across the globe in celebrating the social, political and economic change and achievements of women on Friday 08th March. PSI Oceania promotes the work of women trade unionist and stands united with our sisters who place themselves on the frontline to deliver vital public services.
But there is still much to be done. Violence against women exists in all countries including those in the Pacific region and in all societies. One out of PSI three girls today will face some form of violence in her lifetime Oceania Women Pledgedto End Violence Against Women Now in the Pacific!
Violence against women and girls can be physical, sexual, psychological or economic. It happens in private and public places, and in physical as well as virtual online spaces. Violence is often driven by a deep]seated belief that a woman is not equal to a man.
It is known that violence also happened in Government ministries but not often officially reported. However, majority of the violence against female public sector workers happen at home causing low productivity and/or poor performance at work.
The PSI Oceania Women plans to undertake a survey of public sector workers in the Pacific region in an attempt to find out the status of women in the public sector with regard to violence at work and/or elsewhere and its impact of their families and their productivity or performance at work.
The PSI Oceania Women hope that the result of the survey will assist in planning of future activities and
work policies to reduce violence against public sector women workers. They also hope that these activities and policies can also be extended to assist women in their respective communities in the Pacific region.
The PSI Oceania Women encourages all Pacific affiliates to take the lead in campaigning against gender based violence, and particularly encouraging male leaders to demonstrate their important roles as allies to women.
