150 thousand workers of Electricity Power Wing and WAPDA observed protest day all over the country on 5 March, 2014 under the aegis of "ALL PAKISTAN WAPDA HYDRO ELECTRIC WORKERS UNION" C.B.A Against the proposed Privatization of National Public Utility Electricity .The workers took out mass procession and held rallies in all the major cities including Peshawar, Multan, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Multan, Rahim Yar Khan, Bahawalpur, Faisalabad, Sukkur, Hyderabad and other cities.
At Lahore, thousands of workers took out large procession carrying banners against "PRIVATIZATION AND TERRORISM" in the country and Price hike and aggravating unemployment and chanting slogan against anti-People policies of the World Bank and I.M.F and the Privatization and reached Lahore Press Club Square and held a mass Rally. Speaking at the occasion, Veteran Trade Union leader Mr. Khsurshid Ahmed General Secretary of PAKISTAN WORKERS CONFEDERATION declared that retrogressive economic and social policies of the Government allowing rich to be richer and poor to be poorer and spending almost 12 Billion U.S. Dollars hard earned remittance of Pakistani's Expatriates was being drained out to Debit Services of Heavy Loans of I.M.F. and The World Bank while Capitalists and Feudal Lords and Law Makers had been made Scot Free from Tax Paying whereas 80% wage earners were Tax Payers . He reminded the Government that Father of the nation Quaid-e-Azam had Declared that the national public utilities and heavy Industries would remain under the public sector whereas the flawed policies of the Successive Government with their undue political interference had made the profitable public sector entities alike Electricity, Railway, P.I.A. Pakistan Steel Mills loss making. He pointed out that Hydel Power Station WAPDA and Gas Fired Thermal Power Station of Electricity Power Wing had been generating Electricity at Rs. 1.50 and Rs. 6 per unit whereas the cost of Electricity from Thermal Private & Rental Power Houses had been costing Rs. 16 & 24 per unit. He vehemently demanded to the Prime Minister and Federal Minister Finance & Federal Minister Water & Power to hold dialogue on this vital national issue in the Parliament and Senate and the representatives of Civil Society and Workers organization otherwise, the workers would be compelled to march at Islamabad on 11 March, 2014.
At this occasion the Rally was also address by Akbar Ali Khan General Secretary National Bank of Pakistan employees union , Rana Abdul Shakoor, Zakir Ali Shah, Sajid Kazmi, Ch. Maqsood Ahmed, Haji Muhammad Younus representatives of ALL PAKISTAN WAPDA HYDRO ELECTRIC WORKERS UNION C.B.A. The large number of the representatives and members of Power Engineering Association also participated in order to demonstrate their solidarity against Proposed Privatization. The rally condemned barbaric attack in the Islamabad Court upon Legal Community and Additional Judge and declared it crime against humanity. It also urged the Prime Minister to raise Old Age Pension and revive the Medical facilities of industrial workers on their superannuation and get implemented Working Journalists Wage Board Award.
