Support for our UK Local Government Colleagues - day of Action UK Unions UNISON and GMB

It’s been brought to our attention at the ASU that our fraternal UK Union’s (UNISON & GMB )  are working with Members in local government for an increase in their rates of pay.

We understand that the employers and government have not been able to reach agreement with local government employees and their Union. This is sad to see when we know how much local government employees undertake in serving the needs of the community . The ASU is concerned this has not been recognized.

We are also concerned that the local govt employers have now forced the employees and their Union to take industrial action , so the Union can inform the community and show the employers are not listening. It’s also regrettable the employers have not recognized the additional responsibility and work load taken on by local government employee's.

We at the ASU wish (UNISON and GMB) Members the very best for their upcoming rallies and information to the community opportunities,  to ensure the local government employers recognise these efforts. Along with our best wishes for your ongoing negotiations,

Again it is regrettable that the employees and Union have needed to take this step....we also know that without active, professional and community recognized local government unions , that local government employees would not have been able to have come this far in the negotiations let alone the past benefits you have won for union members.

Yours in solidarity
