News

This ITUC May Day statement this year focuses on our Frontline campaign on multinational supply chains. The campaign is taking shape at the national level with affiliates in Cambodia, Indonesia and the Philippines, and we will be expanding the list of countries for targeted campaign and organising support as the campaign expands.

On the eve of the ministerial-level Spring Meetings of the IMF and World Bank taking place in Washington on 17-19 April, the ITUC calls on the international financial institutions (IFIs) to take measures for stimulating job creation in light of the IMF’s predicted slowdown of economic growth in emerging market and developing countries in 2015.

The ITUC has designated 1 – 7 June as global lobby week to support a climate deal that will save jobs and give us a fighting chance to limit the temperature rise to 2 degrees C or less.
The draft text of the UN climate deal, which will be agreed in Paris at the end of the year, is with national governments now. We invite affiliates to co-ordinate meetings with their government, opposition parties and MPs during global lobby week. A climate briefing will be distributed in the coming weeks, and we will ask you to report back on your government commitments and assess their support for climate action.

The ITUC has joined its Regional Organisation ITUC-Africa in expressing its outrage at the vicious attack by Al Shabaab terrorists which left more than 140 people dead and some 80 injured.

Not too long ago, Ghana was heralded as an economic success story.
