Against the proposed privatization of Electricity
distribution and Generation Companies on the behest of the World Bank and high price of
electricity and its serious load shedding and demanding to the Government of Pakistan to review its economic
and social policies and introduce far reaching reforms to raise Hydel, Coal and Gas Fired Thermal Power
Stations in the public Sector on war footing basis for overcoming the serious load shedding and high price of
electricity and aggravating unemployment and abject poverty and irrational gap between the rich and poor in
the society. The workers were carrying banners condemning the feudalism and crony capitalism and
privatization of the National Public Utilities i.e. Electricity, Oil & Gas,
Railways, PIA, Civil Aviation,
National Bank etc. and demanding abolishing the abuse of feudalism and crony capitalism in the country. The workers held
Protest Masses and Rallies in support of their demands in all the major cities of the country.
At Lahore, thousands
of Electricity/WAPDA Workers held a Protest Rally at Assembly Square Lahore and held DHARNA for
many hours in support of their demands and was addressed by Veteran Trade Union Leader Mr. Khurshid Ahmed including M/s. Akbar
Ali Khan Rana Shakoor, Ch. Maqsood Ahmed,
Syed Sajid Kazmi , Osama Tariq, Muzaffar Mateen, Ch. Muhammad Younis, Syed
Zakir Ali Shah and other trade union representatives. Veteran Trade
Union Leader Mr. Khurshid Ahmed General Secretary of the Union speaking on the occasion urged the
government to adopt progressive National Economic
and Reliance Policy and impose tax upon elite and capitalists and feudal lord
and divert these resources for developing cheaper source of the electricity. Since,
electricity is life blood for national economic and Industrial
and Social development.
That was the reason that the Founder of the
Nation Quaid-i-Azam categorically declared that all National Public Utilities
enterprises including Electricity and Railways, Oil & Gas etc. would be run
by the state. He
declared that the experience of the privatization had already been failed in
Multan, Rawalpindi and Karachi.
The Government should introduce administrative reforms in Electricity to raise
its productivity instead of dividing into 15
Companies and hand over the control back to WAPDA and ownership to the Private Members
of Board of Directors who had no investment even a Rupee in these companies. He
demanded that the government should hold
dialogue with the union instead of privatization unilaterally. He reminded the
Government that Pakistan is an Atomic Power in the World. Why it could not run
Electricity in the Public Sector,
while People's Republic of China had been providing electricity to 1 Billion
and 0.1 Million consumers without
load shedding and high cost of electricity. He declared that the workers had
restrained to take Industrial action
while our nation had been fighting war against terrorists. The workers would be
compelled to take industrial action in case their view point was not heard.
