Thousands of Power Wing Workers of Elecy. Companies
observed "SAFETY DAYS" to-day on 17th June, 2015 under the aegis of "ALL PAKISTAN WAPDA
HYDRO ELECTRIC WORKERS UNION" C.B.A all over the country to protest over rising fatal and non-fatal accidents of
the Line Staff working on the Elecy. Poles. Six Members of Line Staff namely Ch. Shehzad Lineman Grade II Rizvi Sub
Division, Hyderabad, Muhammad Younus Lineman Grade-ll, Samundri Road Sub Division, Faisalabad, Iqbal Ghara Lineman
Grade-ll, Rural Sub Division, Komalia Divn Jhang Amanat AN Bhatti Lineman Grade-l Sarfraz Nagar Sub Division,
Phool Nagar Division, Lahore, Manzoor Hussain A.L.M. Noushera Sub Division, Khyber Pakhtoonkhawa, Bsha-ud-Din, Lineman Pasni Sub
Division Baluchistan recently met fatal accident and large numbers of Lineman have met non-fatal accident and their hands
and legs have been imputed. They are under treatment. More than 250 members of the Line Staff die on account of
fatal accident every year and far more become permanently disabled on account of electric shock working on the lines
on account of unsafe working condition.
At Lahore hundreds of Elecy. Power Wing
workers and Trade Union Representatives participated in SAFETY CONFERENCE held under the president ship of
Veteran Trade Union Leader Khurshid Ahmed General Secretary of the Union and demanded to Elecy. Management and
to the Government to intervene and get ensured provisions of "SAFE WORKING
CONDITIONS" to the Elecy.
Workers in accordance with Electricity Act and get
provided standard Safety equipments including Bucket Fitted Vehicle and recruit
new hands commensurate with rise of work every day to relieve Senior Members of the Line Staff for longer
hours and enlarge Training Facilities on Safety both the members of the Line Staff and management and their Supervisors and to develop
"PREVENTIVE SAFER CLTURE" at work place and appealed and urged to the members of the Line Staff to refuse to work in
case of unsafe working condition in accordance
with the agreement reached with the management and not to work on the risk of
their lives in any circumstances.
The Conference was also addressed by Haji Muhammad Younus and Rana Abdul
Shakoor, Syed Sajid Kazmi, Ch.
Maqsood, Ch. Javed Ahmed, Osama Tariq Secretary All Pakistan Workers
Confederation (Regd.)
At this occasion, Muhammad Anwar General
ManagerTechnical, AhsanlGillarij Director Safety, Zameer Hussain Kalachi Director Human Resources LESCO.
addressed the wooers while Mujahid Islam Billa Chief Engineer of Lahore Electric Supply Company advised the Line
Staff to refuse to work in unsafe working condition. It is their fundamental Right and informed that LESCO. had been
recruiting new hands to relieve high burden over the senior old employees.
At this occasion, the appointment letters
were delivered to the male and female children of the deceased workers and commended the sacrifices of their
duty.
The Conference paying tributes to the members
who become victim of fatal accident and demanded to Electricity Management to take all preventive
measures to get stopped the tragic accident and get recruited new hands to replenish the shortage of almost of half
of the work force due to ban imposed upon the recruitment and get provided all
facilities of education and recruitment of the children of workers, killed at work , and
all facilities to sustain their lives.
