'Happening now, the electricity unions in Indonesia (SP PLN Persero, SP PJB and PP Indonesia Power),visited the University Negeri Semarang to raise the awareness of the students and members of the academe via talk show the negative impact of privatisation of the electricity.

These three electricity unions have been active in campaign against the liberalization of electricity since 2002. They were successful to block the passage of Electricity Act 2002 which aimed to unbundle the energy sectors into generation, transmission and distribution to private sectors. The campaign was not only focused on keeping electricity tariffs low but also on improving the quality energy services. The campaign is also to improve the terms and conditions of workers and guarantee security of tenure. Over the years, the government tried to submit new draft of the electricity act to the Indonesian parliament but unions campaigned against it because the Act will privatized the energy services and Indonesia will suffer the same fate as in Philippines. In 2001 the Electricity Power Industry Reform Act (EPIRA) was enacted by Philippine Government as a condition by the Asian Development Bank (ADB), the energy industry was unbundled and privatized. Now the Philippines has the highest electricity tariff in Asia and 5th in the world. In 2004-2009, energy unions in Indonesia had marched to government office every time they hear any effort from government to push for a new electricity law. This situation has not changed until November 2009 when legislators approved the new Electricity Bill no 30 year 2009. As part of the unions campaign, they have file the case in the constitutional court (MK) against law No 30/2009.
