APEC Energy Ministers Push for Energy Resilience

Issued by the 12th Energy Ministers' Meeting

Cebu, the Philippines, 13 October 2015 - APEC’s Energy Ministers from the 21 APEC member economies concluded their meeting on Tuesday in Cebu, the Philippines, by adopting the Cebu Declaration and Instructions, a joint statement on the the region’s energy priorities.

Ministers instruct the region’s energy stakeholders to promote and collaborate on initiatives under the theme: “Towards an Energy Resilient APEC Community,” as well as create a task force on energy resilience to implement the following: 
  • Disaster-proofing of energy infrastructure
  • Advancing cutting-edge energy efficiency technologies
  • Promoting community-based clean energy use in energy poverty-stricken areas
  • Improving energy trade and investment in APEC

In their statement, the ministers affirm the importance of energy resiliency and energy security in the energy trade and investment framework. They also welcomed the new APEC Initiative for Enhancing the Quality of Electric Power Infrastructure.
