Workers Memorial Day
Today many workers from across the Asia Pacific Region , working in Local Government and the Utility areas, Electricity and Water , often do so in dangerous circumstances . To some its the lack of safety awareness, the provision of safety equipment or not being trained in correct and safe work practices, incomplete or short cut training and the push from some to get the work done without high regard to safety.
Our fellow Local Government Workers, Electricity and Water workers are often exposed to hazards during times of natural disasters , clean ups and making our community safe.
It can also be through the exposure to carcinogenics, asbestos and more - again often post disasters of tsunami , flood , fires, storms or careless waste dumping .
Workplace and related accidents that result in death can also mean life long poverty for ' lost ' workers families .
Today on Workers Memorial Day , lets spend moment remembering those who have lost their lives at work and think how in any way we can stop, accidents at work and the tragic loss that follows.
The day is also another reminder why we need to Unions across the globe to help workers stop work place accidents and make our communities and societies better places to be.
