The procession from Bakhtiar Labour Hall, Lahore, marched through various roads
carrying National Flags and banners
in support of their demands and then held a large Rally at Luxumi Chowk Lahore.
The rally passed resolutions calling for -
· Management to take effective measures to
check menace of fatal and non-fatal accidents of the Line Staff, with the most hazardous nature of duties and risk of loss of life. Work place accidents still result in more than
100 line staff fatalities each year with far more becoming permanently disabled.
· Appealed
to the Federal & Provincial Governments and all Political Parties to formulate "NATIONAL ACTION PLAN" to
tackle the aggravating unemployment and abject poverty & lack of education of over twenty five millions children.
· Highlighted
the widening of the gap between rich and poor in the
society
· Called on the
Government to develop new dams and Hydel Power Stations to provide basic need of Water & Electricity of the Nation
·
Impose
higher taxes ion the wealthy.
· Demanded to the Government restore medical facilities
to the Industrial workers after their retirement
· Ensure the Safety & Welfare of Domestic
Workers, Female Workers and Students
The rally
also appealed
to the Chief Justice Lahore High Court that early hearing may be fixed for the
case of
nationwide Referendum held on 2 February, 2017
The referendum was held for maintaining mutual
dialogue with the management for redressal of the legitimate grievances more than 150,000
workers supplying.
Currently
there is a dead lock for holding mutual dialogue with the management
as required under the provisions of Industrial Relations Act 2012, which has
been developing a lot of
frustration and unrest among WAPAD Union Members the workers.
The Procession was led by Veteran Trade Union Leader Khurshid Ahmed General
Secretary of the union accompanied
by Haji Muhammad Younus, Rana Abdul Shakoor,- Rana Akram, Akbar AM Khan, Osama Tariq, Noshab Khan, Muzaffar Mateen,
Mubbashar Shah (Warsak), Mushtaq Khan (Gazi Brothir) and others.
