An interesting twist in the privatization and role for state owned corporations in Australia with the national liberal (conservative style) national government , and part owner of a " state owned corporation" along with two state governments, has announced that the government owned businesses will spend up big to build significant expansion of electricity capacity by almost doubling the size of the hydro electric scheme ... ...and increasing electricity input into the national grid , to in turn be mainly shared the two most populous states..

The step by a State Owned Business, to significantly expand its capacity is welcome news for Australians, reflects a long push by Unions , Non Government Agencies, Academics and others that have raised concerns that the privatization agenda has sold Australia short on energy capacity, and pushed prices too high as the Country looks for additional capacity to fill its transition to new electricity sources, as well as at a time when the privateers have refused to sell back to state governments thermal power stations to increase capacity and steady load, as the Conservative Government had requested and thought they had agreement on.
It also clearly brings to an end any thoughts of sale of the state owned hydro power station business, as had been considered in the past , as if it had been sold, the Conservative Government would have been dealing with private sector companies.
Its also an encouragement and example to other Governments that privatization does not allow Governments to decide to expand electricity generation, or direct generators , except via a market model ...and once again shows that Unions and those in society , when they argue against privatisation
The step in Australia is one that PSI Affiliates from Pakistan to the Philippines, and beyond ......have also been asking their Governments to embrace by investing in expansion of current Government Owned, State Owned Corps or Electricity Boards Hydro Electric Stations as opposed to expecting the private sector to build additional capacity to keep prices down and increases availability ......
While each market and supply system can be different, this step by an Australian Conservative led (Liberal / National ) Government, in a relative mature generation privatisation market/system, in some states over 25 years, ....is a reminder to all Governments in the Region that as the, PSI, Union Affiliates and Community supporters have said, privatization will lead to electricity shortages, for the community , business big and small, plus arms of government from hospitals to local government. As well as increases in requests for help by charities and long term loss of income for government owners of electricity as well as reductions in jobs , local money spend as well as skills and training for the future work force, ....." state owned " corporations have diffing values to "privatized " for pure profit
