(4 June 2018) Over 500 local and regional representatives and
experts from 40 different countries came to Bilbao last week to address
equality, diversity and inclusion under the banner of ‘differences unite
us!’
The
conference conclusions call for a European approach to meeting the challenges –
see the conference’s
17 proposals.
Much of the conference was devoted to sharing local
experiences, good practices and strategies. EPSU participated in the conference
workshop dedicated to the role of local and regional governments as employers.
Here we discussed the results of the EU social dialogue committee for
local and regional government, with a focus on recently adopted guidelines on
gender equality action plans and on migration and strengthening
non-discrimnation. These guidelines are an important contribution by social
partners to building a joint European response to these issues.
