Congress Highlights: Themes to follow at Resilient Cities 2015

·       Financing resilience: A Finance Forum exploring how cities, practitioners, and financial institutions are reinventing their approaches to increase the flow of resources for urban resilience is organized on the 2nd day. Read more.  
·       Resilient urban food systems: An Urban Food Forum, on new approaches to city/city-region food systems featuring several cities from the global south is organized on the 3rd day. Read more.
·       Disaster risk reduction: Learn from cities’ experiences on integrating DRR into urban planning (Sessions: B3, D2, E1, H3)
·       Urban research: Gain insights on how to bridge research, practice and policy making (Sessions: A5, B1, G1)

Featured sessions

Agence Française de Développement (AFD) uses its wide experience in working with cities in the global North and South to explore the prerequisites (financial, technical and practical) to integrate climate change into long term planning.
How to mobilize planning tools to develop resilient cities (B4)
On the first day of the congress, this session will draw from the experiences of three diverse cities (Da Nang, Vietnam, Rouen, France, and Porto-Novo, Benin) in integrating climate change adaptation into urban planning and policies. The session will highlight the utilization of analytical and financial instruments to develop climate change strategies at the city level.
What can local financing bring to funding mechanisms for adaptation? (D5)
On the second day, AFD will demonstrate the relevance and role of local and national financial institutions’ dedicated funds, as direct or indirect providers to finance municipalities’ climate-resilient investments.  The session will be based on the experiences of different local financial institutions from Latin America.
