PAKISTAN WAPDA HYDRO ELECTRIC WORKERS UNION - Pays tribute and calls for change

For Electricity Workers who have become a victim of fatal accident and become disabled due to electrocution at work place. At this occasion, the workers and the members of the management of Distribution Companies and PEPCO along with  the widows and orphans children of the deceased workers 

Khurshid Ahmed General Secretary of the Union paid tribute to the Electricity Distribution Workers who become victim of more than 250 fatal accidents and far  more become permanently disabled every years and urged the workers to refuse to work in case of absence of Safety Regulations at work place exercising their basic rights.  

Khurshid Ahmed " expressed concern that Pakistan had been named one of the Countries in the World where workers become victim of high numbers of the fatal and non-fatal accident in particular Mines, Transport and other Industries due to unsafe working conditions and lack of absence of Safety Laws  and they also become victim of occupational diseases including in the Textile Industries. That was reason more than 300 workers at Baldia Town Karachi and 52 workers at Chemical Factory Sunder Industrial Estate Lahore died on account of tragic accidents on same day and two workers at Balwal Grid Station, two at Muzaffargarh  Thermal Power Station and two at D.G. Kan  Electricity Circle became victim of the tragic accidents in one day. " 

Khurshid Ahmed urged the Government and the management to get respected the enforcement of Safety Regulations in accordance with I.L.O. Convention  No. 81 ratified by the Government of Pakistan and GSP Agreement with European Union Countries, the lives and health of the workers are not only a great asset for them and their families, but also to the Enterprise and  a Safe Working Conditions also raises Productivity.

 Qaiser Zaman Chief Executive Officer LESCO. and  Muhammad Saleem  Jatt.General Operation PEPCO. speaking on the occasion, declared that management of LESCO  and PEPCO, had been making special  efforts to prevent accident of the workers and ensure Safe Working Conditions to the Electricity Workers by raising Professional Trainings and provisions of Quality Modern Safety Equipment’s and getting observed  SAFETY REGULATIONS STRICTLY and bring to the book both the management officials and workers who deny the Safety Regulations.
