Australian Climate Council highlights role and opportunities for Local Government in new report .

The report  titled " LOCAL LEADERSHIP: TRACKING LOCAL GOVERNMENT PROGRESS ON CLIMATE CHANGE " 

While the report is a reflection on the Australian Experience so far for ' Local Government " there are lessons for all Communities .

The report released on the 19th July highlights critical role of local government, moves to renewable energy re - municipalisation 
of electricity supply and generation, though local programs and reminds us that - 

" Towns and cities have a significant role to play in tackling climate change (Betsill and Bulkeley 2007). Transforming the way energy is used and generated in cities and towns worldwide has the potential to deliver 70% of the total emissions reductions needed to stay on track for the 2°C limit set under the Paris Agreement (compared to expected emissions based on policies currently in place) (IEA 2016) " 

The report is well worth a read for those interested in Local Governments role in renewable and local supplies of Electricity. As well as increased electricity efficiency, climate change actions being taken, along with the risks that Local Communities face from Climate Change ..
