Professor Roberta Ryan, from the University of Technology, Sydney, who has been a contributor to work by PSI, in the AP region, including video presentations to two PSI AP Local Government workshops last year. Has announced the publication of an important piece of research around disability access and service provision by Local Government, including through collaborative partnerships, reviews of international academic and grey literature to understand the enablers and barriers to Local Governments planning, for inclusion - in my quick reading there are lessons for all, both in Australia and elsewhere , along with good research for referencing of activities and research out side Australia - Greg McLean

New disability inclusion framework launched for local governments
The University of Technology Sydney Institute for Public Policy and Governance has released its latest resource for local government practitioners, How local governments can increase the social and economic participation of people with disability: A place-based framework for success.
The National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) grant funded this research, recognising the important role local governments play in supporting the social and economic participation of people with disability.

The resource, based on significant consultation with the local governments, has been designed for all local governments in Australia. This includes small rural and large metropolitan local governments, those in growth areas and those with ageing populations.
The resource aims to support local governments to:
Engage people with disability about their needs
             Plan, implement and measure outcomes
             Build collaborative networks and partnerships
Advocate within and outside the sector
             Boost local employment.
It can be used by elected members, executives and staff to increase the social and economic participation of people with disability in their communities.
The resource and all related materials can be found at ippg.org.au.
